DMI Music & Media Networks Gives Retail Locations Enhanced Customization over In-Store Music & Messaging Programming
PASADENA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- DMI Music & Media Networks, formerly Private Label Radio, a leading provider of unique, out-of-home music and media programming solutions to Fortune 1000 companies, has launched the soundDNA(R) player, which delivers a wealth of opportunities for retailers and advertisers to leverage specifically targeted advertising and enhance customized in-store music programming.
Responding to client needs and market forces, DMI Networks has made a significant investment in developing and launching this innovative technology. This next-generation, incredibly small, music playback device is designed for use in retail locations and delivers a "targeted radio channel" incorporating fully licensed major and independent label artists that fit the tailored sound of a company as programmed by the music experts at DMI Networks.
The simplicity of the system belies its power: tying top-notch content management and distribution systems to extensive account and store data makes targeted broadcasting a reality for large-sized retailers without costly customization.
"The soundDNA player provides our customers with music programming solutions that are unique and in-tune with their brand and business," said Craig Carman, DMI Networks senior vice president Network Solutions. "This technology gives customers access to highly-customized programming created by our team of media experts. The soundDNA player is a direct result of our deep pool of experienced creative talent responding to the needs of our clients and it puts us at the forefront of meeting the technological and service needs of our industry."
"In today's rapidly evolving media climate, we recognized the need for a device that could match the flexibility and customization of our custom music programming with the targeted and daypartable advertising capabilities of traditional media," said Joan Gerberding, SVP Advertiser Solutions for DMI Networks. "This new soundDNA player will provide retailers with a powerful means to harness the power of music to enhance their brand identity and inspire shopper loyalty, all while building a completely new and totally 'painless' revenue stream through specific advertising modules."
The soundDNA player also offers retailers a unique advertising revenue sharing program that turns any in-store music program into a revenue producing service while allowing advertisers to streamline media buys. For example, a record label could choose to coordinate a media buy that would specifically target fast food restaurants located adjacent to college campuses, or a beverage company could advertise special offers on a soda brand within a particular chain of grocery stores or more specifically, a specific market within that grocery store chain.
The soundDNA player is an elegant, glitch-free device with one of the lowest error rates for technology of its kind. All of its audio content is saved exclusively to Flash memory, without relying upon failure-prone CD-ROMs or hard drives. Clients report a failure rate five times less than the average for competing devices offered by other companies.
The device's Internet connection automatically downloads nightly server updates, requiring no action from store employees and without bogging down system resources otherwise needed during regular store hours. The solution is fully compliant with international music licensing requirements and can be synced and deployed at retail locations across the globe. soundDNA's Content Management System provides customers direct access to current playlists and messages anytime through a proprietary web interface.

About the soundDNA(R) player
The new proprietary soundDNA player incorporates technological advances in both design and function. Its sleek, black steel design is both environmentally conscious - it's RoHS compliant - and practical, using a Universal Power Adapter to meet worldwide electrical requirements with minimal power output (24 watts). The solid state design has no moving parts, which results in higher component stability and reduced heat generation. The real power of the soundDNA player, though, is in its versatility. Utilizing a RISC processor, SDRAM memory, flash ROM card and Secure Digital (SD) technology for storage allows for ease of content updates and command and control distribution. MP3 and Windows Media (WMA) audio content is protected behind a Cisco PIX firewall at data center co-location facilities in Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Encrypted data transfers keep audio and playlist content secure, allowing it to arrive in a non-active state on the player, unusable until decrypted by proprietary and base64 encryption, which is housed in the soundDNA player's Flash ROM. The soundDNA player also offers a variety of methods to update in the field, including broadband connectivity through a 10/100 base-TX Ethernet port, dial-up through a USB modem, and content ingestion through a USB thumbdrive or SD card exchanges. These extensive features allow for successful servicing of clients no matter what their technological capabilities.
