New Delhi, Nov 06, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) --
Lighting and power solutions provider d.Light design today said it plans to expand its customer base to 80 million households by 2017.
"By 2017, products of the company would reach 80 million families," d.Light design Chief Executive Officer Sam Goldman told reporters here.
At present, the d.Light product line provides innovative solar and Light-Emitting-Diode (LED) technologies to over 100 million people living without electricity by eradicating the kerosene lantern.
The USD six-million company, which has a manufacturing base in China, plans to spread its base across country in the near future.
"We are going pan-India very soon," Goldman said without divulging further details.
The company, which is financed by venture capital firms Nexus India Capital and Mahindra & Mahindra, would target states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Sikkim among others.
Venture capital fund Nexus India Capital is funding 50 per cent of the total investment of USD six million (about Rs 30 crore), in which Mahindra & Mahindra's investment accounts for 8-10 per cent.
The company has already introduced two products from its product line, which includes a study lamp worth Rs 750 and a home light for Rs 1,250.
This funding allows the Silicon Valley social enterprise, now based in New Delhi, to continue to quickly to meet the worldwide demand for off-grid modern lighting.
