Disaster Recovery Center to Close in Jasper County; FEMA Just A Phone Call Away

Nov 05, 2008 (DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS/ContentWorks via COMTEX) --

AUSTIN, Texas -- As the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center at the Event Center in Jasper prepares to close, disaster recovery officials remind everyone that FEMA is always just a phone call or a mouse click away.

The center is scheduled to complete operations at close of business, Friday, Nov. 7. Until then, it remains open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Event Center, 6258 U.S. Highway 190 West,Jasper, TX 75951.

"When local demand at a center drops, we close it or move to another location," said State Coordinating Officer Joan Haun. "But Texans need to know that disaster help is still available through FEMA's 1-800-621-FEMAtelephone number or any other disaster recovery center."

Residents can still apply or follow up on their applications by going online to www.fema.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- andhearing-impaired. Both numbers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice.

"We urge applicants to follow through with their recovery process," said Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman. "While applying is the first step, you still should follow up on your application and continue to update your contactinformation," she said.

A listing of recovery centers is available at www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/pages/dr1791_drc_list.htm.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
