DeSoto briefs: Northwest Mississippi Community College offers ACT workshops


Jan 10, 2013 (The Commercial Appeal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- SENATOBIA NWCC offers ACT workshops Northwest Mississippi Community College will offer ACT preparation workshops Jan. 28-29 on the Senatobia campus.



The workshops will be 6-9 p.m., and registration deadline is noon Jan. 25.

Each workshop will provide an overview of the ACT format, followed by a review of verbal and mathematics fundamentals for solving typical test questions. Students should bring a calculator, notebook and pen or pencil.


Markus Perkins and Beth Leishman will teach each workshop, and the fee is $105, which includes the textbook. The workshops will be in Room 308 of the Math and Science building addition.

MISSISSIPPI Firm fined for call solicitations Team Tech Solutions has agreed to pay $3,000 for alleged violations of Mississippi's No Call Law, according to Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley.

Presley said the settlement is for costs associated with investigating complaints of unauthorized telephone solicitations. He said Team Tech was not registered with the PSC, as required.

Consumers who want to be on the state's No Call phone list can register at the PSC's website, psc.state.ms.us, or by phone at 800-356-6428.

OXFORD Charges filed in Mississippi bank holdups An Alabama man will be arraigned Friday in federal court in Oxford on charges related to robberies of four North Mississippi banks.

U.S. Magistrate David A. Sanders will hold a detention hearing the same day.

Federal prosecutors say 35-year-old Brian Perry Jones of Toney, Ala., made an initial appearance in court Tuesday.

An indictment accuses Jones of robbing two banks in Tupelo and one each in Booneville and Iuka from August to November of 2012.

Jones was arrested in Tishomingo County following the last robbery. He is currently in the custody of U.S. Marshals.
