DealNews Releases 2013 Black Friday Predictions [Professional Services Close - Up]

(Professional Services Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) As the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season approaches, DealNews, a deal-tracking website, on October 1 released its 2013 Black Friday Predictions.

According to a release, DealNews' sixth annual report forecasts prices for a variety of the season's hottest consumer electronics and products timed for Black Friday. The report provides practical shopping advice and price benchmarks to help consumers save money this Black Friday season.

DealNews noted that editors analyzed up to three years of archived deal data to predict prices for select Apple products, HDTVs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, gaming and toys, media players, Blu-ray movies, clothing, shoes, and home goods. In the 2012 predictions report, 73 percent of DealNews' forecasts were accurately priced or available for less.

Some of the findings from this year's report include: Apple -Free shipping with no minimum purchase at the online Apple Store.


-5 - 10 percent off iPods, computers, and iPads at the Apple Store.

-Better discounts from resellers, taking up to 20 percent off Apple products.

-iPad 4 16GB WiFi for $339.

-iPad 5 16GB WiFi for $440.

-iPhone 5 for $50 or less.

Gaming and Toys -No deals on the new Xbox One or PS4 consoles.

-"Buy-one-get-one" (BOGO) deals on next-generation game titles.

-Nintendo Wii U from $247.

-Holiday bundles on previous-generation consoles for 33 - 37 percent off.

-New game releases for previous-generation consoles for 50 percent off, or about $30.

-Up to 50 percent off toys, including Toys "R" Us' Fabulous 15.

HDTVs -Many retailers will advertise 47" HDTVs for their doorbuster sales, with prices starting at $269.

-55" 3D HDTVs become the new entry-level model: shoppers can expect deals starting at $425.

-60" 1080p plasma HDTVs for $529.

Laptops -Basic 15" dual-core laptops have hit rock bottom; grab these for $170.

-Mainstream 15" Ivy Bridge Core i5 laptops for $285.

-High-end 12" ultraportable laptops with Core i5 Ivy Bridge CPU for $519.

Smartphones -Look for $0 or near-$0 phone deals to start two weeks before Black Friday.

-Possible doorbuster deals on the iPhone 5C.

The DealNews 2013 Black Friday Predictions report also includes buying advice, shopping tips and other projected deals on tablets, media players, Blu-ray movies, clothing, shoes, and home goods.

Methodology For its Black Friday predictions, DealNews added it uses up to three years of historical data based on deals listed on DealNews.com. Using that data, DealNews extrapolates expected sales for Black Friday by applying current trends to historical Black Friday price drops. In so doing, the company corrects for anomalies such as outliers, floor effects, and disruptive new technologies that influence pricing trends.
