'DCS: Romania's telecom revenues to rise by 5% in 2010'
Nov 27, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) --
Romania's telecommunications market is estimated to see a 5 percent
increase in revenues in 2010, according to estimates by cable operator
Digital Cable Systems' CEO Dinu Malacopol, cited by local newspaper
Daily Business. At the same time, DCS predicts that telecom services
consumption in the country will rise by a maximum 10 percent in 2010.
In Malacopol's view, this evolution is influenced by a series of
factors such as the financial crisis that hit Romania, the decrease in
telecommunication prices triggered by diminishing wages, as well as the
saturation levels reached by services such as cable TV or fixed
telephony. According to DCS' forecast, triple-play packages (TV,
internet and telephony) will remain the consumers' favourite offer in
2010. Though a big part of telecom services are sold separately,
Malacopol expects the percent of services integrated into triple-play
packages to double in the next two years. The company expects a 10
percent rise of revenue from analogue and digital TV services and a 30
percent climb in revenues from internet services. As for its telephony
services, the company hopes to triple its number of telephony
subscribers in 2010 as its service has only been launched this year.
Malacopol added that the majority of DCS' subscribers, especially
internet subscribers, have expressed their interest in the operator's
telephony services. DCS' CEO considers that the government's telecom
projects resumption is the only solution for the support of the local
market's growth.
