Datacard Group Acquires CPST; Industry Leading Drop-on-Demand Inkjet Technology Offers Unparalleled Speed, Performance and Cost-Per-Card

MINNETONKA, Minn. --(Business Wire)-- June 8, 2006 -- Datacard Group today announced that it has acquired the assets and ongoing business operations of Card Personalization Systems Technology (CPST), a provider of high-speed inkjet personalization systems used for personalizing cards in the gift, loyalty and telecommunications markets. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida, CPST designs, develops and sells high-resolution drop-on-demand ultraviolet (UV) cured inkjet imaging and magnetic stripe encoding systems. These stand-alone systems can personalize cards at speeds up to 60,000 cards per hour. CPST drop-on-demand UV cured inkjet printing technology can also be integrated with Datacard(R) Ga-Vehren print and packaging systems to form complete, end-to-end solutions.

"CPST is a dominant player in the rapidly expanding US gift card and loyalty card markets, and we see incredible opportunity as the demand for these cards continues to grow in North America and expands into Europe and beyond. The technology's high speeds and maximized uptime makes it ideal for the scratch-off telecommunications card industry, which is prominent in Asia and other parts of the world," said Jeff Hattara, president and CEO of Datacard Group.

In addition to high-resolution print quality, CPST drop-on-demand inkjet printing technology is much easier to use and maintain than solvent-based inkjet systems. CPST systems were designed from their inception to optimize the speed and quality of drop-on-demand UV inkjet printing. As a result, the systems have been quickly adopted by card bureaus.

"In just three years we established an installed base of more than 20 systems," said Roger Potvin, CPST founder and CEO. "Datacard's industry-leading product and service organizations and its comprehensive distribution channel were a clear fit for CPST's world class product offerings. This acquisition creates many new opportunities and I am very pleased to be part of this going forward."

Datacard Group offers the world's best-selling secure ID and card personalization solutions. The company's portfolio includes systems for high-volume card issuance, card delivery, secure ID issuance and passport production, plus extensive service and supply offerings. Datacard Group serves customers in more than 120 countries (www.datacard.com).
