Cupertino: 'Find iPad' app leads to arrest of burglars [The Cupertino Courier, Calif.]

(Cupertino Courier, The (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 21--A feature on a stolen Apple iPad and a detailed description from a sharp-eyed resident helped Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies quickly arrest three suspects in a Cupertino home burglary.

Deputies arrived at a home on the 11000 block of Santa Teresa Drive on Oct. 16. A resident reported that she had returned from a walk to find that her home had been burglarized at about 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from the sheriff's office on Oct. 17.

A resident, who was on a walk near the home, reported seeing three male suspects leave the victim's residence carrying items. The suspects then got into a brown car with the last three digits of the license plate reading "727." After speaking with the victim, deputies learned that one of the stolen items was an Apple iPad. The deputy used the victim's "Find My iPad" app on an Apple device.

The iPad's GPS indicated the device was near the intersection of King and Story roads in East San Jose, according to the sheriff's office.

A deputy located the vehicle described by the witness parked in front of a jewelry store near the intersection of King and Story roads.

Deputies set up surveillance on the vehicle and observed three male subjects matching the eyewitness's descriptions of the home burglary suspects. Deputies stopped the vehicle and found burglary tools, stolen property and money inside the car.

One of the suspects had a piece of the victim's jewelry in his pocket. When detectives arrived on scene, they went back to the jewelry store and discovered jewelry stolen from the victim's house, which the suspects had just sold for cash, according to the sheriff's office.

All three suspects were arrested. Two of the suspects' names are being withheld because they are juveniles, but the third suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Darion Steverson of San Jose.

The sheriff's office believes it is possible that the three suspects could be involved in multiple Santa Clara County burglaries and are asking residents to call 408.808.4431 if they have any information about Steverson or about any other burglaries.
