Crucial corrosion issues discussed
MANAMA, Feb 14, 2012 (Gulf Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
More than 500 delegates from 25 countries took part in the first three sessions of the highly specialist 14th Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition at Gulf Hotel's Gulf Convention Centre yesterday.
"Over the past 33 years the Middle East Corrosion Conference has established a deserved reputation for being the regional leading event in the field of corrosion," said conference chairman Bader Busbait.
"The conference provides the perfect opportunity for professionals and organisations to come together to discuss important aspects related to corrosion."
He said that looking to the future industry had to become more pro-active about corrosion rather than reactive. "Traditional methods of combating corrosion have to change and we have to become more proactive rather than preventative," he said.
"Part of this involves using more non-metallic materials. We need to invest more in research and development in the development of non-metallic materials, looking into their use in the process side of the business and progress so that we have an operating window, which offers opportunities to develop materials, which can replace metallic ones while being in a position not to jeopardise the integrity of equipment. The key to the future is we need to develop more research and development in the industry."
The event by NACE International, originally the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, and the Bahrain Society of Engineers runs until Wednesday.
