Court info leaked on Net from clerk's computer+
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, Feb. 24_(Kyodo) _ Internal information of the Tokyo District Court on public auctions has been leaked onto the Internet via peer-to-peer file-sharing software from a computer privately owned by a court clerk, the Supreme Court said Friday.
The leaked information included personal data on 149 people linked to the auctions, such as their names and addresses, the top court said.
About 1,000 text documents were leaked, apparently through the file-sharing software Winny, from the personal computer of the clerk of the district court, who had brought the information home last year to work on it on his computer, the Supreme Court said.
The Cabinet Secretariat's information security center noticed the data leakage and notified the top court of the leakage on Monday.
The court clerk, in his 40s, said during an internal investigation, "I realized there was a virus infection, but I thought I had removed that."
The district court requires its officials to set passwords on documents when they take them home, but the court clerk did not follow the rule.
The Supreme Court issued an order Friday to all court officials nationwide to never store work documents in their privately held computers. It also instructed the officials to delete any such work documents in their computers.
The district court will conduct further investigations, such as when the information was leaked, and will apologize to those whose personal information was leaked.
A number of information leaks involving Winny have been reported recently.
On Thursday, the Maritime Self-Defense Force said that data, including confidential information, had been leaked onto the Internet through the file-sharing software.
