Cold laser therapy used on inflammation
(Aiken Standard Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 12--Advanced Chiropractic is offering a space-age treatment for pain and inflammation.
Dr. Kim Lewis has been using cold laser therapy for two months to reduce inflammation, promote circulation and speed healing. Her approach combines cranial laser reflex technique, using a handheld pin-point laser on acupressure points, and infra-red laser technique, applying the laser directly to damaged or inflamed tissues.
"I'd known about this therapy for years and years, but they didn't have lasers that were strong enough," Lewis said. "I'd worked with lasers in the past, and they're like magic wands. Since I started this here I've been having fabulous results with people I couldn't help with chiropractic adjustment, which helps many, many things but for some pains it just can't help. I knew once the FDA approved strong enough lasers, I could help those cases. We're having fabulous results with arthritic knees, painful shoulders, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow."
Other cases where the laser treatment has shown effectiveness include diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy, sinus pain, TMJ, back pain, foot pain, sciatica, sprains and strains, and post-surgical healing, according to Lewis.
The lasers serve to increase cellular metabolism at the points where they are applied. The cells then use that additional energy to heal injuries more rapidly and purge toxins which create the inflammation.
"It works very well in conjunction with chiropractic care," Lewis said. "Some patients have immediate results, and some people heal a little slower, but generally speaking everyone I've worked on has had a positive result."
The laser therapy is a cash-only procedure not covered by any insurance, according to Lewis, but treatment prices range from $20 to $40.
