CMCC invests 20 bln yuan in east China to build "wireless cities"
BEIJING, Apr 02, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
China's telecom giant China Mobile
Communications Corp. (CMCC), parent company of China Mobile (0941.HK;
CHL.NYSE), lately signed a strategic cooperative frame agreement with
east China's Jiangxi Provincial Government.
The carrier decided to invest around 20 billion yuan for
constructing "wireless cities" in Jiangxi in the coming five years.
The two sides will deepen cooperation in such fields as
TD-SCDMA (TD), construction of "green Jiangxi", speeding up process
of new type of industrialization, construction of new countryside,
economic and social informatization, projects concerning e-government
and people's livelihood, as well as mobile e-commerce.
In the meantime, CMCC will actively promote the industry and
industrial development of TD, and construction infrastructures of TD
network in the province.
The telecom operator plans to have its TD network cover urban
areas of 11 cities of the province this year, and the whole province
in two years, and realize the evolution from TD to TD-LTE.
The construction of "wireless cities" in Jiangxi will not only
accelerate the informatization progress of Jiangxi, and extend CMCC's
industry chain, but also creates about 30,000 jobs for the province.
