Civic Center chief resigns: Volunteer-board president: ?It was just a lot of little things'
(Lima News, The (Ohio) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 7--LIMA -- Veterans Memorial Civic Center Director Brian Keegan has stepped down from the job he's held for the past 15 years.
Keegan turned in his resignation to board members Wednesday night. His resignation begins immediately.
Keegan said he was leaving the post to pursue other interests. He said Thursday he didn't want to go into greater detail about his plans.
"I've resigned my position to pursue other interests. I'll just leave it at that," Keegan said.
Keegan is officially employed by the center's volunteer board of directors. Board President Don Reese said Thursday he believed the resignation was a result of concerns on both sides.
"I think it was just a lot of little things," Reese said.
The Civic Center and, by a s s o c i a t i o n , Keegan, have been at the center of debate almost since its construction. In recent years, Allen County Commissioner Greg Sneary and others have complained that the center cost the county thousands of dollars a year that could be used elsewhere. Commissioners appoint the Civic Center board members, but as of Thursday morning, said they had not heard of Keegan's resignation.
Keegan first came to Lima in 1988 to serve as the center's production manager. He left two years later to attend graduate school and returned in 1993 to take over the director's job. In addition to overseeing operations of the center, Keegan has been active in the Lima arts community, serving on the boards of the Council for the Arts and ArtSpace and as a founder and producer of the annual PlayFair festival.
Former WLIO news director and longtime Civic Center volunteer George Dunster has agreed to serve as interim director while board members search for a permanent replacement, Reese said. He expects the search to begin in the next week or so.
