CIS Secure Computing Receives Class A TSG Approval for Avaya 9611G VoIP Phone

DULLES, Va., July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CIS Secure Computing, Inc., is pleased to announce Class A TSG type acceptance of a modified general purpose Avaya 9611G VoIP phone (model DTD-9611G-04). Tested for compliance and approved by the National Telecommunications Security Working Group (NTSWG), the CIS modified Avaya 9611G VoIP phone also has the distinction of Class B type acceptance.  This device adds to a growing portfolio of TSG approved instruments manufactured by the company including phones from Cisco and Polycom.  This diversity positions the company to support the broadest range of customers as the migration to IP telephony continues.  CIS leads the industry with over 65,000 secure VoIP products shipped to date.

Defined by the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), the intent of the NTSWG type-acceptance program is for all telephones used in sensitive discussion areas to be physically incapable of produing any microphonic audio on any wires leaving the instrument while it is in the idle state. Any unmodified VoIP telephone can present eavesdropping vulnerabilities inherent in their Ethernet capabilities. "The benefits of TSG approved phones are becoming widely recognized as a significant component of comprehensive multi-layer network security," said John Turner, Chief Technology Officer at CIS. "These phones are required by an increasing number of Government department, agencies, and contractors, and across a broader range of deployment locations. The market for TSG phones outside of the U.S. is also expanding rapidly," he adds.

Class A approval is significant because the device is not dependent on other equipment for microphonic security. "CIS has developed patent pending technology that allows our modified VoIP phones to pass the TSG Class A requirements using standard copper Ethernet interfaces and infrastructures," Turner said. Class B equipment meets the same testing criteria as Class A equipment with the exception of testing in the powered off state. The powered off test, for Class A Type acceptance, is one of the most difficult to pass.
