Churches join forces to feed families

(The Beaufort Gazette, S.C. Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mar. 28--Churches have banned together to help feed families with discounted boxes of food through Angel Food Ministries since 1994, and it has grown to help more than 500,000 families with monthly food packages.



A box of Angel Food contains a variety of items from steaks, chicken and ground beef to vegetables, milk, eggs, dessert and other items for $30.

Each month the menu changes, but the price for the regular box remains the same. Angel food is available to everyone and can be ordered at several sites as well as online at angelfoodministries.com. Angel food may be purchased with cash, a bank-certified check, EBT card or money order. An unlimited number of boxes may be purchased, and many specials, including a fruit and vegetable box, are available.



Angel Food Distributions, for those who placed orders earlier, is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, 157 Lady's Island Drive. Orders may also be placed at this time. Volunteers who wish to help unload the truck are asked to be at the church no later than 6:45 a.m.

Also today, for those who live south of the Broad River, deliveries will be made at Grace Coastal Church, 15 Williams Drive, Okatie. Details: 843-379-5520.

Also, six sessions to demonstrate how a regular box of Angel Food can be cooked will be offered Tuesday and April 7 at three locations.

Upcoming workshops are: -- 1 p.m. Tuesday and April 7 at the Clemson Extension Service in the Industrial Village, off Burton Hill Road -- 1 p.m. Tuesday and April 7 at the Department of Social Services Conference Room, 1905 Duke St.

-- 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and April 7 at the Charles "Lind" Brown Center.

Episcopal group sponsors conference The Church of the Palms United Methodist Church in Okatie, the Episcopal Forum of South Carolina, Inc., will sponsor a special half-day conference at 10 a.m. today.

The mission of EFSC is to preserve unity with diversity in the Diocese of South Carolina and within The Episcopal Church. Dr. Walter Cabe, senior warden of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Arlington, Texas, will speak.

A box lunch will be provided, and a $10 donation at the door is requested. The Church of the Palms is at 1425 Okatie Highway (S.C. 170), Okatie. Details: 843-522-9636.

Wesley women to meet Sunday The Wesley United Methodist Church Women meet at 4 p.m. Sunday at the home of Hattie Ficklin.

Also, the Wesley United Methodist Men and Women will sponsor a Lowcountry Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The cost is $8. Details: 843-524-5918.

Bethesda Christian to host concert Bethesda Christian Fellowship will host a Fellowship Concert featuring the Kirk Choir, of Sea Island Presbyterian Church, and the Voices of Victory at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda Christian Fellowship, 32 Martin Luther King Drive, St. Helena Island.

Lenten services held at Carteret Monday Lenten Services will be held at noon every Monday through April 6 at Carteret Street United Methodist Church. The service will be followed by a soup luncheon.

Parish Church reflects on Lent Each Tuesday during Lent, the Women of the Parish Church of St. Helena in downtown Beaufort will sponsor a Lenten service at noon in the Parish Hall to be followed by a light lunch and lecture.

The program is free, with a small donation asked to help with the cost of the lunch. This year's series will look at the five questions Pilate asked Jesus when Jesus stood trial. The third service is Tuesday and titled "Do you not know that I have power to release You, and power to crucify You?" with the Rev. Mark W. Avera.

Love House to hold talent auditions Love House Ministries' Talent Night is at 7 p.m. June 19. The event is part of the church's weeklong eighth anniversary celebration.

For those interested in participating, auditions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church on 423 Parris Island Gateway. Space is limited.

Also, Love House Ministries will hold "Spring Forth Into Your Destiny" during its spring revival. Services will be held nightly at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the church.

Washington to speak at lunch hour Evangelist Kathy Washington will speak during the Lunch Hour of Power praise and worship from noon to 12:45 p.m.

Servants of God celebrates 9 years Servants of God International Outreach Tabernacle, Inc. will have its pastor's ninth anniversary services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. A close-out service is at 4 p.m. April 5.

Scottsville to hold Pre-Holy revival The Scottsville Baptist Church will have its Pre-Holy Communion Revival Wednesday through Friday and at noon April 5.

Church presents musical drama The Baptist Church of Beaufort will present the musical drama, "Joy Comes in the Morning," at 7 p.m. April 4 and April 5.

Beaufort Aglow hosts speaker Reid The Beaufort Aglow Community Lighthouse will meet at 11 a.m. April 4 at the Port Royal Medical Center (second floor), 1320 Ribaut Road, Port Royal.
