CHRISTMAS TREES: Okanogan-Wenatchee forest offers tree cutting permits

NACHES The holiday season is not far away, and the Forest Service is offering permits to cut your own Christmas tree from the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
Permits are on sale for $5 each at all ranger district offices, the Okanogan Valley Office, and at the forest headquarters office in Wenatchee.
The permit allows a family to cut a tree (maximum height 15 feet) or dig a live transplant tree. Each permit is for one Christmas tree, and only two permits will be issued per household. Permits are not refundable and may not be re-used.
Tree hunters are reminded to remove the entire tree, not just the top, and to leave no more than a 6-inch stump.
For those who can't make it into local Forest Service offices during daily business hours (7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday), businesses also are selling permits.
