China Unicom Launches Wo Portal Browser

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) lately launched Wo portal browser, which is customized on the basis of QQ browser for the convenience of customers to use Wo portal service.
Wo portal browser is designed for mobile phone users and jointly launched by China Unicom Broadband Online Co., Ltd. and Tencent Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0700). Currently, the browser is only compatible with some mobile phones based on Android operating system made by makers like HTC, Huawei, Samsung, Meizu and Xiaomi.
Actually, China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL), another major Chinese carrier, also launched independently developed mobile phone browser SOO in 2011.
The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) reveals that China has 215 million mobile phone browser users, accounting for 67.6% of the Internet users through mobile phones. The growth of third-party browser users is particularly notable and carriers that are extending reach to mobile Internet field certainly will not miss opportunities.
