China Trademark Protection: Web Presence In China Achieves Near Perfect Record Online

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Web Presence In China (WPIC) has been successfully eliminating trademark infringement online in China for years. In 2015, WPIC increased its elimination levels from 75% up to 95-99%.  "By eliminating violators of your Trademark online in China, brands see immediate spikes in conversions and accelerated growth. We're finding that marketers and legal professionals are coming together to leverage these tools," says Joseph Cooke, Director of Web Presence In China.

Trademark protection in China continues to be a top concern for both B2C and B2B clients.  Counterfeit goods are commonly sold on the Internet in China, and can be seen on numerous ecommerce platforms, such as Tmall, Baidu and Taobao.  This makes it difficult for Chinese consumers to trust purchasing online with such common misrepresentation.  Consumers may even fly out of the country to purchase product, to ensure they're getting the eal thing.

Grey market is also a concern, as it prevents the company from having complete control over how their brand experience is delivered.  Unauthorized resellers may set up poorly designed websites or web shops within a 3rd party online platform.  Delivery may be slow, customer service may be poor, and condition of the goods sold may have deteriorated due to improper packing and storage. All of this affects consumer perceptions of the brand.

Cooke states that developing a unique brand experience relies on controlling distribution channels and eliminating fake products. "China has strict regulations regarding trademark protection and with agency assistance, violators can be removed from the online market on an ongoing basis," says Cooke.

The first step is to identify trademark violators. Companies find this to be overwhelming as there are many popular online platforms to market and sell products within China.  WPIC has developed programmatic scraping technology, which delivers a comprehensive list of violations, including unauthorized resellers, copyright infringements, counterfeit goods and sensitive internal documents.

The second step is to have the violators removed. WPIC has developed relationships with numerous platforms and can efficiently manage the legal process required for permanent removal.  Cooke states that violators often change their website or web shop name and rebuild their illicit business.  "With constant programmatic monitoring and legal support, violators eventually give up and move on to other brands with less protection, giving your brand a distinct advantage."
