China Telecom to Launch Handset IPTV Service
SHANGHAI, Dec 19, 2008 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
China Telecom is set to apply more value-added broadband mobile telecom services such as mobile wallet, mobile payment and even IPTV to mobile phones, according to an executive from Shanghai Telecom.
China Telecom has built up more than 25,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in 21 major Chinese cities. In Shanghai, the number is 3,000.
Shanghai Telecom started to sell 189-prefixed mobile phone numbers as of December 1. But first the 189-prefixed numbers are only available for high-end users and will not open to all users until December 20.
To lure more high-grade subscribers, Shanghai Telecom will reach prospect users individually to market the 189-prefixed numbers. And the mobile phone users that have been chosen by Shanghai Telecom are people always with alarming telephone bills.
The CDMA/WLAN dual-mode mobile phones of China Telecom will be marketed under the brand of Tianyi. The dual-mode handsets enable mobile phone users to get access to the Internet.
