China Promotes Mobile Internet among SMEs in 3G Era

China has launched an enterprise mobile informationization promotion campaign in an effort to help small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs) ride on the 3G market boom and beef up their competitiveness.
Under the initiative, more than 10,000 promotional activities will be kicked off in 100 cities over the next two years to provide free 3G technology application training services coupled with mobile website creation and management for the millions of SMEs across the country, said Chai Dawei, director for the SME Competition Strategy Committee under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The program, supported by the MIIT and the Internet Society of China (ISC) and carried out by Beijing Emay Softcom Technology Ltd., aims to strengthen competitiveness and market awareness while cutting operation & management costs for SMEs by popularizing mobile Internet, especially 3G platform applications catering for corporate users, according to Mr. Chai. The initiative will make it easy for companies to operate business, launch promotional campaigns, and get realtime feedback via mobile phones.
At the moment, 99.3% or over 42 million out of the companies in China are SMEs, contributing 55.6% to the gross domestic product (GDP), providing around 75% of the jobs in the urban area, and handing in 46.2% of the tax.
Notably, the enterprise mobile informationization project is part of an aggressive Chinese-language mobile Internet surfing popularization drive rolled out in the country, disclosed people familiar with the matter. The mobile Internet penetration drive, initiated to boost the coverage of the mobile Internet, has kicked off in key cities and provinces like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Guangdong, Shanxi, and Zhejiang.
Advanced applications are developed to bring a much easier and faster access to the online services for the 700 million Chinese-speaking mobile phone users in the country, pointed out Yang Fan (transliterated), senior consultant for CCID Consulting Company Limited (SEHK: 8235), describing the applications as a tailored solution for mobile netizens.
A popularization of the mobile Internet is expected to speed up the biggest migration in m-commerce in history, said Wang Rulin, an expert in mobile commerce. Currently, there are 710 million mobile phone users in the country, of which 190 million have access to the mobile Internet. 38.9% of the mobile netizens are white collars, signaling a huge market potential, according to a recent report unveiled by Shanghai-headquartered iResearch Consulting Group.
