China Mobile online wireless city portals now in 300 cities
BEIJING, Jun 28, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
China Mobile (00941.HK; CHL.NYSE) has
put online its wireless city portals in 300 Chinese cities as of the e
nd of May.
In November 2011, however, the number was quite small at 150, Li
Yue, the company president told media previously.
Wireless city is a multiparty cooperation scheme in which the large
st Chinese telecom giant signs wireless city construction contracts wi
th various Chinese cities to build basic wireless city platforms to en
able people to have access to a multi-level mobile network and gain in
formation about the applications of their cities.
According to the company, it has linked over 17,000 life-related
appliances on these wireless portals. At the very beginning, "people'
s livelihood problems" had been taken as a priority by China Mobile an
d the company would strive to craft an appliance cluster and platform
capable of solving as many livelihood issues as possible, such as hosp
ital registration, noise monitoring, and so on, said a person in charg
