LHASA, Aug 06, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China's telecommunications leader China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941, NYSE: CHL) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Lhasa on August 4 with the local government in Tibet Autonomous Region to invest CNY 5.05 billion in the local telecoms infrastructure in five years.

Under the agreement, China Mobile will be dedicated to the local social informatization construction. Both sides will cooperate in eight fields such as 3G construction and application, network infrastructure, social informatization, rural informatization, e-government, mobile e-commerce, local characteristic industries, and travel service informatization.

Meanwhile, the local government will offer favorable supports to China Mobile in the fields including cell tower location, municipal landscape programming, environment approval, land procurement and relocation, pipeline construction, electricity deployment, and frequency spectrum.

As early as May 2009, China Mobile officially started TD-SCDMA commercialization in Tibet. It meant that Tibet, well known for the roof of the world, entered a 3G era.
