China Mobile Brews CNY10bn TD-SCDMA Terminal Subsidies

BEIJING, Jan 13, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL) Vice President Lu Xiangdong says that the telecoms carrier will classify all TD-SCDMA terminals into three grades and offer subsidies for the second- and third-grade products.

TD-SCDMA terminal subsidies will amount to CNY 10 billion, forecasted China Mobile, adding that it will also offer a tariff discount to 3G users.

China Mobile, which gained a TD-SCDMA license on January 7, 2009, brews to invest CNY 58.8 billion in TD-SCDMA network construction this year and kick off bidding invitation for the third phase of its TD-SCDMA network construction project on January 20.



As the TD-SCDMA service provider, it will build 60,000 TD-SCDMA base stations or so in 2009, driving the total number of TD-SCDMA base stations to over 80,000. The TD-SCDMA network is designed to over 238 cities, accounting for 70% of the country's total.
