China Jan. aluminum cable firms operating rate down 29.5 pct m-o- m, SMM
BEIJING, Feb 14, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
The operating rate of China's alumin
um cable companies in January was 40.3 percent, down 29.5 percent mont
h on month, according to a survey recently published by the Shanghai M
etals Market (SMM).
Analysts attributed the falling operating rate to the week-long C
hinese Lunar New Year holiday (January 22-28), as many businesses halt
ed production during the holiday.
Due to the holiday and the cold weather, some aluminum cable cons
truction projects suspended operation in the first ten days of January
, leading to a falling demand for the aluminum cable products. Meanwhi
le, some cable companies also took advantage of the holiday to overhau
l equipment, leading to the slump in the operating rate.
Given tenders to be invited for power grid construction from midd
le February, large and medium-sided aluminum cable companies would res
ume their production gradually. However, the continuing cold weather w
ould still affect the power construction projects, resulting in weaken
ing demand for the aluminum cable products. Therefore, the operating r
ate was expected to rise slightly in February. (Edited by Hu Pingcha
