(Post & Courier (Charleston, SC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 24--Blackbaud inc. is adding some celebrity wattage to its upcoming annual conference for the nonprofit industry.

The Charleston-based technology company has lined up actor RJ Mitte of the 2008-13 cable TV blockbuster series "Breaking Bad" to be its keynote speaker. He will kick off bbcon 2014, which is scheduled for Oct. 6-8 in Nashville.

Mitte, who played Walter "Flynn" White Jr. on all five seasons of the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning "Breadking Bad," was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 3 years old.

Now, in addition to having a recurring role on the ABC Family series "Switched at Birth," he's an ambassador for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, according to Blackbaud. Mitte's talk at the tech conference is titled, "Power on! Turning Your Disadvantages into Advantages." "RJ will share his story of how Shriners Hospitals for Children played a critical role in his own journey to success," the company said.

Blackbaud used to hold its annual get-together in its hometown. In 2010, it moved the event to the Washington, D.C., area, saying it was more convenient travel location for an international gathering.

This year's it's holding bbcon for the first time at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. The Music City program includes a concert by country music singer and song writer Phil Vassar.

Based on Daniel Island, Blackbaud provides software and services specifically tailored for nonprofit fundraising groups. It is the largest company in that industry.
