Charles Slonim, MD, Becomes FSO Vice President


ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), the preeminent statewide professional association for doctors who specialize in vision care, installed Charles B. Slonim, MD, as vice president at its Annual Meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology, held June 25-27 in Orlando.

As FSO vice president, Dr. Slonim will help lead the nonprofit association, which represents more than 500 medical doctors focused on protecting the medical and surgical specialty of ophthalmology. In addition to active participation in legislative advocacy and the dissemination of responsible information to physicians and patients throughout the state, the FSO also provides continuing medical education opportunities.

Dr. Slonim is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa and a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He eaches physicians about oculoplastic diseases, diagnoses and surgeries as well as contact lens technology.



Dr. Slonim has lectured extensively to ophthalmologists, optometrists and other physicians throughout the United States and in more than 55 international cities in more than 35 countries around the world. He has published more than 34 scientific journal articles, 17 ophthalmic book chapters and 11 clinical symposia.

Dr. Slonim is the team ophthalmologist for Tampa Bay area professional and intercollegiate sports teams including the Tampa Bay Lightning and University of South Florida intercollegiate programs. During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Dr. Slonim served as a consultant at the Olympic Vision Center in the Olympic Village. He is an Honorary Member of the Haitian Ophthalmology Society after assisting in the relief effort following the 2010 earthquake.


Dr. Slonim is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and New York Medical College. He completed an internship and residency in ophthalmology at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
