Chamber of Commerce to hold member appreciation lunch

Apr 15, 2012 (The Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- At noon on Monday, April 16, the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce will have its first member appreciation lunch.

The lunch will be held at Elkin Municipal Park and the food will be provided by Harry's Place, a local Elkin restaurant and chamber member. Duke Energy and Fairfield Inn & Suites, both chamber members, are sponsoring the luncheon.

Misty Matthews, office and tourism manager of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, said that many chamber members have expressed an interest in the chamber providing more networking opportunities.

A monthly member appreciation lunch has been successful for the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce, and Matthews is hoping it will be successful for the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce as well.


The intent of the chamber lunches would be for employees and owners of the chamber's businesses to network with one another. Networking allows local business to obtain clients, seek reputable businesses to provide services they need, and to get to know other businesspeople in the area.

"People do business with people they know and trust," said Matthews.

Matthews stresses that being a chamber member offers many benefits. Members are referred by one another and the chamber to people looking for goods and services. Chamber members also have opportunities to advertise in chamber publications and get exposure on the Internet.

According to Matthews, the member appreciation lunch will be offered as long as members express an interest in attending and sponsors are available. Hopefully, the next one can be in July.

It is the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce's hope that the event is well attended and that other chamber members step up and sponsor subsequent member appreciation lunches.
