CG Pioneer's Retrospective Art Show Debuts @ SIGGRAPH 2006
CHICAGO --(Business Wire)-- March 8, 2006 -- SIGGRAPH 2006, the 33rd conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive techniques, features the first, extensive retrospective of graphics pioneer Charles A. Csuri's computer art and animation.
The SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery: "Intersections" will showcase Csuri's works from 1963 to the present. Csuri is best known for his groundbreaking work in the field of computer graphics, computer animation, and digital fine art - creating some of the earliest known computer art in 1963. Csuri is recognized by Smithsonian Magazine as "the father of digital art and computer animation" and by the Museum of Modern Art as a leading pioneer of computer animation. His early work helped to set the standards commonplace in today's computer graphics industry.
Between 1971 and 1987, Csuri founded the Computer Graphics Research Group, the Ohio Super Computer Graphics Project, and the Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design, dedicated to the research and development of digital art and computer animation. He is also co-founder of Cranston/Csuri Productions, one of the world's first computer animation production companies.
"Charles Csuri's achievements have had an immense influence on the computer graphics industry as well as thousands of artists worldwide," stated Bonnie Mitchell, SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery Chair from Bowling Green State University. "The magnitude of his work is beyond words."
The Csuri retrospective will be exhibited in the SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery along with digital art works from around the globe. This diverse array of works explores new territories, crosses traditional boundaries, provokes thought, and utilizes digital technology in innovative ways.
