CEA Honors Four for Outstanding Technology & Standards Contributions

PHOENIX --(Business Wire)--

Today, the Consumer Electronics Association (News - Alert) (CEA)® honors four industry engineers for their outstanding contributions to CEA's Technology & Standards program.

David Layer, senior director of advanced engineering at the National Association of Broadcasters, receives the Technology Leadership Award, which honors industry volunteers who have demonstrated long-term industry leadership through active participation in CEA's standards program, generally more than five years. Layer is recognized for his leadership and significant contributions to the development of digital radio broadcasting standards, and outstanding support of the National Radio Systems Committee since 1995.

Hans Liu of D-Link (News - Alert), Dan Torbet of ARRIS and industry consultant Dr. Kenneth Wacks receive this year's Technology Achievement Awards, which recognize those whose contributions are focused on new technologies or significant enhancements to existing technologies, and who have become engaged in CEA standards activities more recently, generally within the past two years. Liu, director of connected home software architecture and IPv6 evangelist at D-Link; and Torbet, director of systems engineering at ARRIS; displayed outstanding leadership as co-chairmen of the working group that developed ANSI/CEA 2048, a new CEA standard defining host and router profiles for IPv6. Wacks exhibited outstanding leadership of CEA's Modular Communications Interface Subcommittee, which developed CEA smart grid standards that were incorporated into the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel Home-to-Grid group (Wacks is the group's chairman).

"This year's honorees have all made tremendous contributions to the CEA standards program," said Dave Wilson, vicepresident, technology & standards at CEA. "CEA's efforts to develop technical standards for HD Radio®, IPv6 deployment and smart grid technology are largely due to the hard work of tonight's four honorees."

The honorees receive their awards during a special dinner at CEA's Innovate! at the Wigwam Resort in Phoenix, Ariz. The conference provides the chance for technology companies big and small, to ignite investment, meet like-minded innovators and hear from market disrupters.
