CBC: The Congressional Black Caucus Announces Over 300 Employers and Counting Participating in the 'For the People' Jobs Initiative

This month, the Congressional Black Caucus launched the "For the People" Jobs Initiative in Cleveland, Ohio. Nearly 20,000 people have gathered for town hall meetings, job fairs, job readiness workshops, and seminars as a part of the CBC's Jobs Initiative in Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta and Miami. Two weeks ago, we were happy to announce over 120 employers registered to participate with several job vacancies available to improve the dismal unemployment situation in our communities. This week, we are pleased to announce that number has grown to over 300 employers as we finish the jobs initiative in Los Angeles, California. As reported, African American unemployment remains incredibly high at 15.9% and the wealth gap between whites and people of color is the largest it has been in decades. It has become clear that the time for immediate and real action to provide hard working Americans with real jobs is now.
"We want to change lives, and get people employed", said Chairman Emanuel Cleaver, II. "Washington finally appears ready to focus on real people who are suffering. We are pleased that many of our nation's employers have stepped up to the plate to help remedy the crisis", Cleaver said. The "For the People" Jobs Initiative will be in Los Angeles, CA. this Tuesday and Wednesday, August 30 and 31, 2011, for the final event in the five-city initiative.
