Carrier iQ® Extends Mobile Intelligence System to Include Device-Sourced LTE and VoLTE Analytics

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

Carrier iQ, a pioneer in device-sourced mobile intelligence, announced today that it has added device-sourced LTE (News - Alert) and VoLTE analytics to its Mobile Intelligence System, enabling mobile operators to quantify the performance of their LTE services from the perspective of actual subscriber devices. With direct subscriber insight, operators can identify causes that impact user experience, reduce problem resolution times, and expedite their rollout of LTE networks and VoLTE services.

The Need for Device-Based LTE Analytics

Today, network operators use a combination of network-based analytics and drive-testing to understand subscriber experience and optimize investments into network infrastructure. Network-based analytics tools provide an "inside-out" view of performance, but do not accurately identify how mobile subscribers actually experience their services at the network edge. Drive-testing fails to provide a non-stop view of subscriber experience at any time and location, such as when mobile subscribers are indoors. As a result of relying on only these two methods, the pace of LTE and VoLTE deployments is sluggish while subscriber experience remains suboptimal.

LTE Analytics

Before broad coverage of LTE is available to support VoLTE, operators must deploy Circuit Switch Fall Back (CSFB) to facilitate smooth transitions to/from LTE and the successful establishment of circuit switched calls. Carrier iQ's LTE Analytics allow operators to understand how best to properly configure network parameters toavoid long voice call setup times, high call establishment failures, and delayed access to data services on LTE after the calls. In addition, if traffic loads are incorrectly distributed between LTE and 3G, subscribers can experience slow data throughput from 3G coverage, while others may be rejected entirely from acquiring LTE services. With Carrier iQ's LTE Analytics, operators can optimize networks so that LTE-capable devices connect to LTE wherever available.

VoLTE Analytics

A successful VoLTE deployment must maintain or exceed the comparable subscriber experience with circuit switched calls. When subscribers transition from LTE coverage to UMTS coverage, VoLTE calls must seamlessly continue while minimizing delays that could impact the user experience. Carrier iQ VoLTE Analytics examines all layers of IMS and radio protocols from VoLTE devices, for both the control and data planes, to provide visibility into transition locations, RF conditions, signaling events, and reasons for failures. These unparalleled insights into VoLTE call experience enable operators to better understand problem areas and accelerate the rollout and adoption of VoLTE services.

"With Carrier iQ's Mobile Intelligence System, operators can identify causes that impact the LTE and Voice over LTE user experience," said Larry Lenhart, Chief Executive Officer of Carrier iQ. "As a result, mobile operators can now optimize their investment into network infrastructure, reduce problem resolution times, and expedite LTE and VoLTE rollouts."

Carrier iQ has deployed over 200 million agents on mobile devices, including over 7 million LTE capable devices. Carrier iQ's Mobile Intelligence System leverages a massively scalable big data engine, advanced analytics and data sciences, and a fully-integrated, patented device-based software agent that allows operators to obtain a 360-degree statistical view of performance from the perspective of device populations.
