Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Announces Funding of Projects Totaling More Than $4 Million through Community Reinvestment InitiativeCardinal Innovations Healthcare has announced the selection of dozens of projects that will receive funding through its Community Reinvestment Initiative, an investment totaling more than $4 million. The selected projects reflect a broad range of initiatives and programs that aim to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Cardinal Innovations created the Community Reinvestment Initiative as a way to make stable, sustainable investments across its 20-county service area. Through this initiative, Cardinal Innovations asked organizations to submit proposals for programs that would improve health outcomes for its members with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders. "The goal of this effort was to identify and fund high-impact projects in our communities," said Cardinal Innovations Chief Executive Officer Trey Sutten. "We could not have been more pleased with the number of responses and the broad range of requests we received from organizations throughout our geography. We received so many innovative proposals that we actually made the decision to go beyond our original commitment-funding more than $4 million in projects. It's an investment in our members, providers and communities that is right in line with our mission." During the three-month submission period ending May 1, Cardinal Innovations received hundreds of proposals from entities and organizations across its 20-county service area: Alamance, Cabarrus, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Orange (News - Alert), Person, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes, Union, Vance and Warren Counties. Proposals were accepted from municipalities, counties, public school systems, colleges and universities as well as other qualifying non-profits. Projects were selected for funding through a comprehensive process that included reviews by members of a cross-departmental evaluation committee as well as reviews by the Cardinal Innovations Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors and final approval by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Each county served by Cardinal Innovations is represented in the list of award recipients. Among the programs selected was a proposal from Hinds' Feet Farm in Huntersville, which provides specialty services to more people with traumatic brain injury or acquired brain injury than any other community-based provider in the state. Community Reinvestment Initiative funds will be used to expand its facilities in anticipation of continuing growth. Esther House of Stanly County, which provides services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, will receive funding to expand its facility, allowing for an increase of more than 50 percent of the people it can support, meaning fewer victims turned away due to space challenges. In an effort to better address mental health and substance use disorders among its jailed population, Granville County, with the support of Community Reinvestment Initiative funding, will strengthen a program that allows detainees regular access to mental health assessments and follow-ups with trained clinicians through videoconferencing. The goal of the program is to remove gaps in service, reduce recidivism and lower instances of unrest at the Granville County Detention Center.
