Cancellation Notice from the City of Burlington
(Canada Newswire English Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Attention News Editors
BURLINGTON, ON, Dec. 16 /CNW/ - Effective immediately, Parks & Rec facilities are closed and programs cancelled for Sunday December 16, morning, afternoon and evening. All City of Burlington facilities, including City Hall, arenas, community centres, and pools will be closed today.
Handi-van service has been cancelled today and will be reassessed early Monday morning. All scheduled passengers have been contacted by phone.
Regular Transit services are operating - City buses are approximately five minutes behind schedule.
The City of Burlington has completed a full salting run late last night and initiated plowing on primary roads at 3:00 am. Currently units are completing a plowing pass of secondary roads.
Snow clearing operations are undertaken on a priority basis based on road classifications primary then secondary and finally local roads. City crews will cycle back to the primary and secondary roads prior to completing local roads if snow continues to accumulate on these main roads. It is very likely that most local roads will not be plowed until late in the storm. Residents can greatly assist snow-clearing operations by staying off the roads and not parking vehicles on the road or blocking sidewalks.
Environment Canada and our Weather Service continue to forecast total snowfall amounts by this evening for the Burlington area of approximately 30cm with a mixture of ice pellets. Overnight 5 to 10 cm of snow has fallen, less than anticipated.
