Cadwalader Expands Antitrust Practice With Leading European Competition Attorney Vincent Brophy

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, a leading counsellor to global financial institutions and corporations, today announced that Vincent Brophy, a prominent European competition attorney, will join the partnership. Brophy and colleagues join Alec Burnside and his team of European antitrust and competition attorneys. Brophy will operate from Cadwalader's Brussels and London offices; the Brussels office is set to double in size.

Brophy specializes in EU competition law, with expertise in cartel investigations and a growing emphasis on follow-on litigation. He brings to Cadwalader 20 years of experience representing clients in proceedings before the European Commission and the competition authorities of the European Member States, and he is particularly known for his work with clients in the banking and financial services field. Brophy's joining Cadwalader reunites him with Burnside, with whom he practiced for several years at Linklaters.

"Cadwalader is pleased to further grow our antitrust practice in Europe with one of the continent's leading experts in EU competition matters," said Pat Quinn, Managing Partner. "Vincent's practice focuses on investigations and complements the strong merger clearance practice Alec Burnside has established for the firm in the EU."

"Cadwalader is globally recognized for its strong base of financial institution clients as well as for its outstanding global and European competition law practice," Brophy said. "I look forward to reuniting with my friend and colleague Alec Burnside and working alongside him to serve the firm's clients and further develop the excellent practice he has established."

"The addition of Vincent to our global antitrust team further strengthens our practice," said Rick Rule, head of Cadwalader's antitrust group. "In particular, Vincent's strong and growing reputation as one of Europe's go-to lawyers for cartel investigations and follow-on litigation nicely complements our market-leading practice in the United States. Increasingly, competition authorities and plaintiffs' lawyers are coordinating across borders; integrating Vincent's first-rank capability with our existing U.S. capability will further distinguish Cadwalader's antitrust practice and enhance our global reputation as a destination antitrust practice."

Brophy studied at the University of Oxford and University of Paris and is admitted to practice law in Brussels. He is ranked as a leading antitrust attorney in various industry directories and sits on the editorial board of the European Competition Journal and is a member of the European Competition Lawyers Forum. Prior to joining Cadwalader, Brophy was at Jones Day and, previously, at Linklaters.
