Bureaucratic obstacles won?t be tolerated: Faruk Khan

Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan Friday said the government would not tolerate any bureaucratic obstacle or complexity that hampers the country?s economic development.
?No government department will be allowed to create barriers to development,? he said while addressing the launching ceremony of Call Center and Telecom Solution, a joint venture of UK-Bangladesh.
Bicom System Ltd based in London and Inspire Communications, Bangladesh jointly hosted the function at China Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center.
British High Commissioner in Dhaka Stephen Evan, CEO of Bicom System Senad Jordanovic and Managing Director of the BTCL SM Khabiruzzaman attended the function as special guests while Chief Executive Officer of the Inspire Communications Md Hedayet Hossain spoke as the key discussant.
Faruk Khan assured that the government would remove all barriers before the expansion of IT-based services in the country.
?Making Digital Bangladesh and creating employment opportunities are the two major pre-election pledges of the current government and the Call Center business matches well with the pledges,? he said.
He said there are huge potentials for call center business in Bangladesh and the government is sincere to introduce new businesses here to face the challenges of this century.
Unveiling the government?s plan, he said the government would ensure IT training in each high school across the country by 2013 and it would be expanded later up to the primary school level.
Speaking on the occasion, Stephen Evan said the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK is strong and it is getting stronger day by day.
Appreciating the initiative taken by the two companies from Bangladesh and the UK, he said this is a tremendous job and it will help explore potentials from the global market of outsourcing. ?There?s still room for enhancing trade and business between Bangladesh and the UK,? he said.
He hoped that the joint venture would help Bangladesh develop world-class communication system.
CEO of the Inspire Communications Md Hedayet Hossain said the Call Center business could create new avenues for foreign-exchange earnings.
?Our two major foreign-exchange earning sectors -- labor market and RMG -- have been hit hard by the ongoing global recession. But there are potentials for the Call Center business, no matter the recession prolongs or not,? he said.
He urged the government to remove all bureaucratic obstacles for the smooth expansion of IT-based business in Bangladesh.
