Bunte wins disputed German port contract
(Lloyds List Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) THE 480m ($678m) tender for construction work on the planned Jade-Weser-Port container terminal in Wilhelmshaven has been awarded to a consortium led by building group Bunte, writes Katrin Berkenkopf in Cologne.
The decision follows a courtruling earlier this month that banned the original winner, Hochtief, due to a deficient offer.
The new award was made after another competing building group decided not to appeal against the award of the contract to Bunte.
However, other court proceedings launched by opponents of the projects have to be completed before work on the terminal can begin. The state parliament of Lower Saxony is discussing whether to set up a committee of inquiry to look into possible political influence and responsibilities for inconsistencies with the Wilhelmshaven project.
Future operator Eurogate no longer expects a start in 2010, as originally planned.
