"Customers have always told us how important it is to "touch & feel" products before making a purchase. With the launch of Apple's ARKit for iOS 11, we now have a way of bridging that physical world with the digital," said Dan Davis, CTO of Build.com.  "By partnering with Prolific Interactive, our customers can now visualize a product in multiple finishes and see how it would look and function in their space, all from the comfort of their home."

Using Build.com's "In-Home Preview" feature, customers can view incredibly detailed, to-scale 3D models of products in their homes. The immersive experience allows customers to see exactly how a product will appear in their existing environment. Products can also be viewed in different interactive contexts from switching a light fixture on and off, to turning on a faucet.

While other home improvement retailers have dabbled in augmented reality, Build.com partnered with Prolific to leverage Apple's new ARKit to offer the most precise and accurate modfied reality interactions in eCommerce today. The company carries over 800,000 products and aims to have over a thousand available in the "In-Home Preview" feature, including products from Delta, Kichler, Hansgrohe, Progress Lighting, Miseno, Park Harbor and more.

"While virtual and augmented reality have been part of the digital conversation for years now, the release of Apple's ARKit presented an opportunity to quickly bring AR experiences to mobile users at scale," said Fiona O'Donnell-McCarthy, VP of Product at Prolific Interactive. "The experience we created with Build.com quite literally bridges the gap between online and offline for their customers in a way that adds delight and increased confidence for their customers on their path to purchase."

The Build.com app is available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, and the "In-Home Preview" AR feature can be experienced on devices running iOS 11 (iPhone 6s/6s Plus and later and all iPad Pro generations since 2015, as well as the new iPad, 5th generation).
