VIETNAM'S IT-TELECOM SECTORS DID WELL IN 2008
HANOI - Vietnam's information technology (IT) and telecoms
sector achieved impressive growth in 2008 despite global
economic and financial difficulties, said Vietnam's Deputy
Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan at the sector's conference on
tasks for 2009 on Jan. 2.
At the end of 2008, the sector had registered 82.25 million
telephone subscribers, or 97.5 telephones per 100 people. Of
the figure, 85.5 per cent are mobile subscribers.
INDONESIA'S BNI PROCESSING LOAN OF US$3 BLN FOR TELKOM
JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) (JSX:BBNI) is
processing a syndicated credit of Rp3 trillion (US$3 billion)
for the state owned telecommunications company PT Telkom.
The state bank has been named as the lead arranger for the
syndicated loan that will involve Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI)
and a number of other local banks, BNI President Gatot M.
Suwondo said.
PAKISTAN TELCO SIGNS REVENUE-SHARING DEAL WITH NET PROVIDERS
ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited
Thursday signed revenue-sharing agreements with three major
Internet Services Providers (ISPs) including Link dot Net, Sky
Net and Comsats.
The agreement signing ceremony was held at PTA HQs,
Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Chairman PTA, Dr. Muhammad
Yaseen, where representatives of PTA, PTCL and ISPs were also
present.
PANASONIC TO DEBUT 1ST FULLY PAPERLESS FAX
TOKYO - Panasonic Corp. (TSE:6752) will offer the first fax
machines that enable users to both send and receive messages
without using paper.
The KX-PW 608 series, which goes on sale Jan. 23, allows
users to type their messages using built-in telephone keypads,
similar to sending an e-mail using a cellular phone. In
addition, electronic documents in Microsoft Word or other
formats can be transmitted using accompanying software.

JAPAN'S NTT, OTHERS TO DISTRIBUTE MOVIES VIA FIBER OPTICS
TOKYO - The Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (TSE:9432)
group, Toho Co. (TSE:9602) and Kadokawa Group Holdings Inc.
(TSE:9477) have agreed to join hands in distributing digitized
movies to theaters via fiber-optic networks, The Nikkei learned
Sunday.
Operating 31 and 14 affiliated movie theaters, respectively,
Toho and Kadokawa boast a total of 407 screens.
