BRIEF: Woodbine Elementary School was on Modified Lockdown During Police Chase

SACRAMENTO, Feb 14, 2012 (KTXL-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Woodbine Elementary School was on a modified lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a police pursuit ended nearby.

As a precaution, kids who normally walk home were asked to be picked up by their parents.

The pursuit ended near 25th Street and Yreka Avenue, and the suspect bailed on foot. Police set up a perimeter, and after a few hours the suspect, identified as James Catlin, surrendered.

Spokesman Gabe Ross, of the Sacramento City Unified School District, says the kids at Woodbine Elementary were either picked up by a parent or safely placed in an after-school program.

Ross doesn't believe the school was in any immediate danger. Students are normally let out around 2:45 p.m.
