BRIEF: West Corp. to cut 176 jobs in Hampton

Jul 01, 2009 (Daily Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Telemarketing and communications services company West Corp. will lay off 176 employees in its Hampton facility at the end of August, according to a state filing.

The filing, posted on a state Web site, said West will undertake a "permanent reduction" of the workers starting Aug. 30.

Under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification law, or WARN, companies are required to issue the filings when making significant job reductions and plant closures.

West, which will make the reductions at its call center on Fox Hill Road, referred calls to its corporate offices in Nebraska. Two company executives did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
