BRIEF: U.S. Attorney Rebecca Gregory set to resign effective at end of month

Apr 15, 2009 (The Beaumont Enterprise - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- U.S. Attorney Rebecca Gregory has announced that she will resign from her appointment effective April 30.

The position is a presidential appointment and U.S. Attorneys have traditionally resigned from office when a president from a political party different from the president who appointed the U.S. Attorney takes office.

Gregory previously served as first assistant prosecutor under Matt Orwig from 2002 to 2005, when he left for private practice and later worked for a Dallas law firm before being appointed U.S. Attorney by President George W. Bush.

After April 30 first assistant prosecutor Tammy Reno will serve as acting U.S. Attorney until an appointment is made by President Barack Obama's administration.
