BRIEF: Update: Merced band wins Monterey Blues Festival contest

Nov 26, 2009 (Merced Sun-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Monterey Bay Blues Festival said Merced group Mike Hammar and the Nails won its annual Battle of the Blues Band competition.

The competition included 11 blues bands. Winners were picked by popular vote Nov. 22.

Voters chose two runner-up bands, Pat Wilder and Serious Business, and Sheryl Rouse and the Songbird Blues Band.

The festival said in a news release that the bands will perform on stage at its 25th Silver Anniversary June 25-27, 2010. Some of the the band performances will be aired "in the near future" on AMP Channel 24, the news release said.
