BRIEF: TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Midland edges Arkansas

Apr 15, 2012 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ODESSA, Texas -- MIDLAND The Midland RockHounds scored three runs in the bottom of the first and that was all they needed thanks to another strong outing by a starter in Saturday's 3-2 win over Arkansas.

Murphy Smith (1-0) pitched the first six innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits. Shawn Haviland pitched three scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit to earn the save.

Shane Peterson put Midland on the board when he hit a bases-loaded double that plated teammates Conner Crumbliss and Josh Horton. Two batters later, Anthony Aliotti singled to score Peterson.


Midland improved to 5-4 while Arkansas dropped to 3-6.
