BRIEF: Tekstar settles 'traffic pumping' charges

Nov 16, 2012 (Fergus Falls Daily Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Without admitting any wrongdoing, Tekstar Communications agreed to pay $146,000 and reduce its intrastate switched access rates in a settlement with the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

The agreement settle charges that Tekstar engaged in "traffic pumping," in violation of state telecommunications law.

"Traffic pumping" occurs when out-of-state chat lines funnel calls through rural telecommunication providers, which can collect high access fees, impacting the bottom line on consumers' phone bills.


Tekstar is owned by Perham-based Arvig Communications.
