BRIEF: Store robbed

LIVE OAK, Dec 20, 2012 (Suwannee Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A local cell phone store was robbed Monday and the clerk beaten and left unconscious, according to Live Oak Police Dept. Det. Justin Bates.

According to Bates, a call came in about 7:30 p.m. of a delayed robbery at the Verizon store on Ohio Avenue next to Hardee's. Upon arrival, the store clerk, Ty Bannister, was found laying on the ground with obvious wounds to the head.

Bannister reported that near closing time, an individual walked into the store asking Bannister to work on their phone. Bannister reluctantly did so. Bannister was then attacked and took a blow to the head with an unknown object, leaving Bannister unconscious.

The suspect then removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer and fled the scene.

Bates said they are following a strong lead and does not want to give a description of the perp at this time.
