BRIEF: Reading tutors needed for Stanislaus County adult literacy program,
Feb 10, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
In this tough economy, being unable to read or having no high school diploma makes getting a job that much harder.
The ReadingWorks Adult Literacy program, provided by a partnership between the Stanislaus County Library and Stanislaus Literacy Center, helps adults achieve those goals.
Volunteers who provide individualized tutoring in reading are an essential component in reaching these goals.
Those wishing to help as volunteer reading tutors must attend a free tutor training and learn how to use the curriculum, provided free of charge. Other topics to make the tutoring experience successful are covered.
After completing training, volunteers are matched with an adult student living in the Patterson or Newman area who is available for tutoring at a time and location convenient for the volunteer.
The time commitment is 90 minutes of tutoring at least twice a week.
A training session will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Patterson-Newman Family Resource Center, 118 N. Second St., Suite D, Patterson. For more information or to reserve a training spot, call ReadingWorks at (209) 558-4505.
