BRIEF: Power outage closes Rowan's Carson High
Jan 31, 2013 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Students at Jesse Carson High School in southern Rowan County were sent home early Thursday due to a power outage, school officials say.
Rita Foil, a spokeswoman for the Rowan-Salisbury Schools, said power was knocked out to the school overnight when a tree fell during the strong thunderstorms that rolled through the region. She said repairs were hampered by a car wreck Thursday morning near the school, in China Grove.
The school's phone system also is not working, Foil said.
School officials used the automated phone system to contact parents of students, who were dismissed about 8:30 a.m. Foil asked that any parents who normally drive students to school arrange to have them picked up this morning.
No other schools in the system were affected.
