BRIEF: Police seek suspect in Modesto bank robbery

MODESTO, Feb 13, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Modesto police are looking for a man who robbed the Umpqua bank in north Modesto this morning.

At about 10:23 a.m., the man walked into the bank at 2525 McHenry Ave. and handed a note to a clerk demanding money, according to Lt. Rick Armendariz. The man told the clerk he had a gun, but one was never seen.

The suspect was last seen behind the bank. Officers searched for him in the neighborhood for about 45 minutes but did not locate him, Armendariz said.

The suspect is described as white, 25 to 30 years old, about 5 foot 8 inches tall, and weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He was wearing a beanie, a dark-colored jacket with a gray hooded sweater underneath and blue jeans. He had a light goatee with a mustache.



Police ask anyone who may have information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers toll free at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637.
