(China Daily: Hong Kong Edition Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Company gives 130 libraries United Technologies Corp has donated 130 libraries to elementary schools in rural China this year as part of its continuing partnership with The Library Project. Supported by the China Population Welfare Foundation and local communities, the China UTC Library Project aims to help rural schools obtain necessary educational resources and build teaching skills. The project has benefited 62,630 students and 3,820 teachers across 12 provinces and autonomous regions since it began in 2011.



Hilton hotels going green Hilton Worldwide, a global hospitality company with 4,100 hotels in 92 countries, is strengthening its corporate social responsibility in China, the company said. Hilton introduced its LightStay System in 2009 to monitor its environmental performance, and it has carried out tree planting and soap recycling in China to compensate for the negative effects of carbon emissions.

Foundation assists Tibet The Beijing Apple Charity Foundation donated goods and funds valued at 6 million yuan ($968,205) to Ali, the Tibet autonomous region recently, Sohu News reported. The funds will be used for education, medical treatment, environmental protection and cultural activities for local people.


Committee to sponsor award The United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs launched a $1 million award sponsored by the China Energy Fund Committee earlier this month. The award aims to encourage and reward leadership and the spirit of innovation in corporate sustainable energy and development.

Disadvantaged children aided CapitaLand Ltd, a Singapore-based real estate company, has initiated a program in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Wuhan. The company donated 200 yuan ($32.22) to local charities for disadvantaged children for every volunteer who walked 10 kilometers in two hours. The program gained a good response with more than 3,000 volunteers taking part.

Rural patients get free surgery Abbott Medical Optics Inc has launched ophthalmologist training programs for Chinese doctors in rural areas and provided free cataract surgery for patients in Tibet, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions and Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It has also released two new products in China for patients who received the surgery.
