BRIEF: Nuclear Plant Downgraded After Safety Incidents

COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Palisades nuclear plant has been downgraded by the Nuclear Regulatory Comittee (NRC) following two safety related incidents in 2011.
Plants are graded into five categories, with the fifth being the worst, the first being the best. Palisades went from the second category to the third after evaluation by the NRC.
There are four plants in the United States in the third or fourth categories. No plants are currently in the fifth category.
According to a spokesperson, the plant is operating safely. Palisades is owned by New Orleans based Entergy Corporation.
